Just a quick update to let you know that Flora’s hard drive is officially dead. No data can be recovered. *slow, sad tolling of bell* A memorial service will be held at a later date, but for now, I have a chapter and a half to rewrite. I’m trying to remind myself that it’s not a crisis, it’s only a book, but it is really rather upsetting. I will always wonder whether those original words would have been the ones to catch the eye of the Man Booker judges, or – more excitingly – the Sunday evening telly commissioning people at the Beeb. We shall never know.

A cautionary tale. *Logs onto Amazon looking for a back up device*
The irony is that I did back up – before I left home. But then I had no back-up facility in Switzerland, and so of course that’s when it all went wrong. Thankfully I lost only two days’ work – could have been so much worse.
